Youth & Community Programs
KROC Programs
Community programs and events touch on lots of activities and lots of age groups. Hosted by KGL with planning help from local community volunteers and organizations, these programs can include clinics, outings, fundraisers, community-building events, and more.
KROC (Katahdin Region Outdoor Collective) programs are larger youth experiences that are made possible by the collaborative efforts of several regional organizations, including KGL. For more information on who we are and what we do, click here.

3rd Annual Millinocket X-Stream Canoe Race
June 1
Taking place the first Saturday of June each year, Millinocket hosts paddlers who are eager for whitewater in the Millinocket X-Stream Canoe Race! This event was founded and is run by local river enthusiast Chris Howe, with support from many local businesses and individuals, including KGL. The X-Stream race has become a fundraiser that raises money for regional youth paddling initiatives through programs put on by KGL and KROC.
Racers
This 7.4 mile route starts off with 4 miles of class II/II+ whitewater, followed immediately by the grand finale of the route- Turtle Pit. Turtle Pit is a 3/4 mile rapid of class II/III whitewater filled with midstream boulders and pour overs.
Racers are encouraged to register as soon as possible! For more race information or to get registered, visit the official race website.
Volunteers
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated at this event! From safety crew, to shuttle drivers, to manning our registration and merch tables, to event outreach, there is something for everyone. This is a great option for anybody looking to be involved, but maybe doesn’t want to commit to running the river.
If you think this might be a good fit for you, email Baileigh at the email provided below.
